Dr. Ge Zhang (M.D.) was recently awarded the National Science & Technology Progress Award (2nd class) based on the translational research achievements of his research team.

Dr. Ge Zhang’s research work focuses on developing novel nucleic acid-based drugs targeting the negative regulator of bone formation (protein molecules and non-coding RNA) to treat bone diseases with impaired bone formation. So far, we have successfully developed nuclei acid delivery system facilitating anabolic drug sspecifically targeting osteoblasts (Nature Medicine 2012). Furthermore, we have also identified a novel non-coding RNA(miR-214) which targets ATF4 to inhibit bone formation (Nature Medicine 2013). According toabove research achievements from Dr. Ge Zhang’ research work, the Ministry of Education of China awarded Dr. Ge Zhang the National Science & Technology Progress Award (2nd class).
