Recently, the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) signed an agreement with Northwestern Polytechnic University(NPU) to establish Joint Research Centre for Space Life Science in Musculoskeletal System and promote further research in space life science. One joint programme between two universities funded by China Manned Space Engineering Office will be performed in China’s 1st cargo ship Tianzhou-1(TZ-1) launched at 2016.

At the opening ceremony for the research center and the 10th anniversary of the School of Life Science in NPU on April11th held by NPU, Prof. Wen Zhiqian, the vice-president from NPU and Prof. RickWong, the vice-president (research & development) signed the agreement andpresided at the opening ceremony. In addition, Prof. Shang Peng (the Dean ofSchool of Life Science in NPU) awarded Dr. Zhang Ge the certificate of visiting professor in NPU.

In the collaboration between the two universities, Prof. Shang Peng and Dr. Qian Airong (the director and deputy director of the Key Laboratory for Space Bioscience and Biotechnology in NPU), together with Prof. Lu Aiping and Dr. Zhang Ge (the director and deputy director of the Institute for Advancing Translational Medicine in Bone & Joint Diseases inHKBU) performed the joint research project titled with the effects of microgravity on the function of the cells in bone tissue. This joint research project was the only one successfully approved programme by China Manned Space Engineering Office among the submitted projects in space life research.

Besides, the School of Life Science in NPU and the School of Chinese Medicine in HKBU will establish Joint Institutefor Applied Space Technology and Translational Health Science in Shenzhen topromote the industrialization of advanced achievement in space life science.
