Institute for Advancing Translational Medicine in Bone & Joint Diseases (TMBJ) in Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) offers full-time research postgraduate programme leading to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) qualifications. The Full-time research students are offered HK$ 13,800 per month as studentship (in the academic year 2012/13).


Applicants may be required to prove their language abilities in English by means of an interview or, for applicants from outside Hong Kong, by means of performance in a test to show acceptable language proficiency such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Member of Chartered Institute of Linguists (MCIL) examination or College English Test (CET) in China.


An applicant must be the first author of at least ONE article which has been published / accepted for publication in a journal with an impact factor of 1.0 or above.

If an applicant has published ONE article in a journal with an impact factor of 9.0 or above, he or she will be highly recommended to apply for ‘Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme’ (http://cerg1.ugc.edu.hk/hkpfs/index.html). The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$ 20,000 and a conference and research related travel allowance of HK$ 10,000 per year for the awardees for a maximum period of three years. If an applicant is outside Hong Kong (except mainland China), he or she will be highly recommended to apply for ‘Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme’ (http://cerg1.ugc.edu.hk/hkpfs/index.html).


For graduation of Ph.D. student in TMBJ, he / she must be the first author of at least TWO articles which have been published / accepted for publication in a journal or journals with a total impact factor of 6.0 or above; OR he / she must be the first author of at least ONE article which has been published / accepted for publication in a journal with an impact factor of 9.0 or above.
